The increase in agricultural prices highlights the acute issue of food security : how to double the world's agricultural production by 2050 to feed a growing population while preserving the future of the planet ?

In this context, the conference aims at presenting the food and agricultural issues, analysing the challenges facing agriculture in the world and providing answers.

A conference organized at the initiative of France in partnership with the European Commission and European Parliament.

9:45 am - Introductory Session

In the presence of Michel BARNIER, French minister of agriculture and fisheries, Mariann Fisher BOEL, European commissioner for agriculture and rural development, Bernard KOUCHNER,French minister of foreign and European affairs and Louis MICHEL, European commissioner for development and humanitarian aid. .

Presentation of the challenges facing today's agriculture (food, energy, climate and the environment), including the question of the future of agriculture in developing countries and new initiatives in the fields of policy and governance, animated by Michel GRIFFON, deputy director-general of the National agency of research (France), Erik ORSENNA, member of the French Academy and vice-president of FARM and Joachim VON BRAUN, director-general of the International food policy research institute (IFPRI).

With introductory presentations by German ESCOBAR, Latin center for rural development (RIMISP), Kati PARTANEN, Ceja representative, president of the young farmer's committee, International federation of agricultural producers (IFAP), Juan Lucas RESTREPO, director of the National federation of coffee growers of Colombia and Saliou SARR, coordinator for Senegal, Network of agricultural organizations and producers of West Africa (ROPPA).

2:30 pm - Session 2 - What governances for agriculture at regional and global levels?

Aziz AKHANNOUCH, minister of agriculture and fisheries of Morocco, Jacques DIOUF, director-general of the FAO, Ndiogou FALL, president of the executive committee of ROPA, John HOLMES, secretary-general for humanitarian affairs and the UN system coordinator for the high level task force on the global food crisis, Pascal LAMY, director-general of the WTO, Jean-Michel LEMETAYER, president of the committee of professional agricultural organisations in the European Union (COPA) and Neil PARISH, chairman of the committee on agriculture and rural development of the European Parliament.

With introductory presentations by Laurent PELLERIN, president of AgriCord, Salifou OUSSENI, commissioner of the CEDEAO in charge of agriculture, "Regional markets: tools of the agricultural development? " and Doug TAYLOR-FREEME, vice-president of the Southern African Confederation of agriculture unions (SACAU).
